Studio Hessian is a London-based practice shaping spaces through a dialogue between architecture, materials and the people who inhabit them.
Studio founder Scarlett Hessian is based in London and works across Europe and the United States. She completed her Masters in Architecture in Copenhagen before going on to teach at the Royal Danish Design Academy. Her design sensibility is shaped by a deep love of vintage and antique furniture, and she’s most at home sourcing characterful pieces that bring depth and personality to a space.
Before establishing Studio Hessian, Scarlett developed her craft at leading practices including Michaelis Boyd in London and Grimshaw Architects in Sydney, working across both residential and large-scale projects.
The Person Behind the Projects.
Scarlett Hessian is an architect and interior designer who tells stories through space. Her work drifts between London and Los Angeles, where she has reimagined everything from sun-bleached beach cottages to layered city townhouses, always with an instinct for what gives a place soul.
Trained in architecture but drawn to the lived-in details of interiors, Scarlett’s approach is as much about feeling as it is about form. She works with natural materials, vintage finds and custom design to build spaces that feel quietly collected over time. Nothing showy, always thoughtful.
Every project is a collaboration — with her clients, with the light, with the bones of the building. Whether it’s a timber ceiling uncovered in California or a mews house reworked for a solo traveller, her homes are shaped by atmosphere and intent. They are designed to be lived in, not just looked at.
